One of My Best Learning Tips

When I was taking math in college I had a real problem with proofs and theorems. If you take any college calculus you’ll run into these things constantly. They are highly theoretical and because of that I had a problem understanding them.

This was my biggest weakness, I tended to have a lack of interest in topics that I could not find a real application for.

Does this sound familiar?

In my head, I would always ask? How can this be used in a practical application? It was kind of like studying the theory of making candy without ever tasting it. But once you tasted it, you’ll be a lot more excited about learning how to make it, right?

My Tip!

To make my difficult topics more interesting, I always search to find practical examples of what I’m learning can be
applied. I would start by asking the professor, “How is this theorem used in a practical application?

I would almost always get a smile and the professor would start to show how it was applied. That helped me be more motivated and excited about everything I learned.

That’s how Calculus became my favorite course in college, thanks to my desire to find out how to apply what I learned and the professors who were willing to share.
